Here is a list of the assignments in the event that we have digital learning days.  This list as well as the assignments, are on Google Classroom.

Digital Learning Days- Whitfield 8th Grade ELA

***A Remind message will be sent out daily to remind students which day they should be completing.  If you have not signed up for Remind, please do so by joining with the class code @mrswhit808 on the Remind app.


You will need to complete the assignments that are listed below based on the numbers of days we are out of class.


Day 1

  • Log into Google Classroom and complete the assignment titled “Day 1: Grade 8 EOG ELA Item Sampler 2018”.  This assignment is on edulastic.

  • Log into Google Classroom and complete the assignment “Day 1: The Friday Everything Changed”

Day 2

  • Log into Google Classroom and complete the newsela assignment titled “ Day 2 "Speak Up!" teaches the skills of negotiation.” You must complete the quiz and the writing portion.

  • Log into Google Classroom and complete the edulastic assignment titled “Day 2: Verbals”

Day 3

  • Log into Google Classroom and complete the flocabulary assignment titled “Day 3: Flocabulary: Writing a Thesis.”  You must complete the video, vocab cards, vocab game, read and respond, and the quiz.

Day 4

  • Log into Google Classroom and complete the edulastic assignment titled “Day 4: Nonfiction Skills: Central Idea, Author's Purpose, Summarizing, Supporting Claims”

Day 5

  • Log into Google Classroom and complete the Newsela assignment titled “ Day 5: Restoring the Voting Rights Act.” You must complete the quiz and the writing portion.

  • Log into Google Classroom and complete the edulastic assignment titled “Day 5: RI and L Standards.”

Day 6

  • Log into Google Classroom and complete the assignment titled “Day 6: Verbals”.  You will have two attempts at this assignment.

  • Log into Google Classroom and complete the assignment titled “Day 6 The Bet.”


Day 7

  • Log into Google Classroom and complete the assignment titled “Day 7: Flocabulary: Text Features.” You must complete the video, vocab cards, vocab game, read and respond, and the quiz.


Day 8

  • Log into Google Classroom and complete the assignment titles “Day 8: Young people watch a lot of YouTube.”  You must complete the quiz and the writing portion.

Day 9

  • Log into Google Classroom and complete the assignment titled “Day 9: Flocabulary: Test-Taking Strategies.”  You must complete the video, vocab cards, vocab game, read and respond, and the quiz.

Day 10

  • Log into Google Classroom and complete the assignment titled “Day 10:  Writing Assignment.” This should be between 3-6 paragraphs, typed on a google doc, and submitted through Google Classroom.  You only have to pick 1 of the 3 topics to write about.

Day 11

  • Log into Google Classroom and complete the assignment titled “Day 11: Outdoor preschools are catching on.” You must complete the quiz and the writing portion.


Day 12

  • Log into Google Classroom and complete the assignment titled “Day 12:  Quizlet GMAS Review.” You must sign up for a new account and the link is on the assignment.  Review the terms then complete the learn, write, and test sections.  

Day 13

  • Log into Google Classroom and complete the assignment titled “Day 13 The Scholarship Jacket,” read the story, and complete the questions on a google doc.

Day 14

  • Log into Google Classroom and complete the assignment titled “Day 14 Vocabulary 8th grade ELA”.

Day 15

  • Choose a song or a poem that you can relate to during this time of social distancing.  List the song or poem, the singer/band or author, and explain why you can relate. This should be no more than a paragraph.

Day 16

  • Creative writing prompt:  In route to a family engagement, your character stops at the home of her favorite movie star to snap a photo.  After climbing the fence for a better view, she falls over and is left stranded with no way out. What happens next?- Write at least 4 paragraphs.- Homework Grade

Day 17

  • Dialogue- Write a conversation between 2-3 people using only active voice.  Each person needs to have at least 5 lines. You can write this in play format if you would like.  Have fun with it!- Classwork Grade
