Hello My Name Is...
Tammy Jones
7th Grade ELA & ELA Department Chair

Tammy Jones is a native of
Birmingham, AL who has the ultimate passion for teaching. In 2005, she
graduated from Alabama A&M University, located in Huntsville, AL, with a
Bachelors degree in Secondary Education and a minor in English/ Language Arts. In 2005, she was hired at Yeager Middle
School, and upon completion of her first year of teaching, she realized that
teaching and being involved with her students was her true calling. As a 6th
grade teacher and the YMS cheerleading coach, Mrs. Jones furthered her
education in order to be of
better service for her students and colleagues. In 2008, she received a Masters degree in Educational
Leadership. She is currently working on an Educational
Doctorate degree in Curriculum and Instruction. She does not desire to leave the
classroom; she just wants to
master all of the facets of
education in order to maximize her effectiveness. Through her experiences, Mrs. Jones
has determined that students have the desire to learn; however, it is the presentation of the lesson,
structure of the environment, and the expectations established that lead to successful
student achievement. In an effort to help each student to succeed, she became
their biggest cheerleader by pushing them to meet and exceed her high
expectations. Teaching, for Mrs. Jones,
is the establishment of life-long
student/teacher relationships. It is important to Mrs. Jones that her students
understand that she is their teacher for life and not just the current year. Today, she remains an
active part of several former students’ lives. In 2010, Mrs. Jones was
recognized as the Douglas County Mentor of the Year. After thirteen years of
teaching, Mrs. Jones continues to work with the after school program, lead the
ELA department, participate in
the mentoring program, and remains an activist for her students.
